Some super famous songs, some northern soul classics, some 70s funk cuts, a handful of northern instrumentals and a bunch of songs that I'd been after for ages. The Songs The Sonics Taught Us - 13/6/11 Listen here - http://www.mixcloud.com/hdif/songs-the-sonics-taught-us/ Released in 1965, The Sonics' debut album, "Here Are The Sonics", contained four originals and eight covers, mostly famous soul and rhythm'n'blues tracks, with a song by local heroes The Wailers thrown in for good measure. But if the source material was well known, the overhaul these songs were given was something else entirely. Recorded on a two track tape recorder, with a single microphone to pick up the drum kit, the songs were souped up and supercharged: rough proto-punk bursts of energy that sounded like they were splattered with oil and gasoline.
